Delmer laboratory and jewellery weighing scales collection

Laboratory & Jewellery Weighing Scales

Delmer Group offers digital balances for goldsmiths, jewellery workshops, precious-metal handling, laboratory sample preparation, quality control and research. Select a balance by maximum sample mass, required readability, repeatability, weighing environment and whether the use requires legally verified weighing.

Choose the right weighing solution

Jewellery and precious-metal applications

Jewellery scales may be used to weigh gold alloys, findings, small components, scrap, powders and other precious-metal samples during production, sorting and workshop quality checks. Choose capacity for the heaviest sample and its container, then choose readability to suit the measurement task. Where gemstones are weighed in carats, 1 metric carat (ct) equals 0.2 g; confirm the unit and the exact instrument configuration before use.

For buying, selling, invoicing or other commercial transactions by weight, confirm local legal-metrology requirements, verification status, minimum capacity and permitted use for the exact model. A display increment alone does not establish accuracy or approval for trade.

Laboratory applications

Precision and analytical balances support sample preparation, formulation, reference-standard handling, chemical analysis, quality control and research when the selected model is fit for the method. Microbalances are for specialist very-low-mass measurements; moisture analysers estimate moisture content from a heating-and-weighing procedure. The correct instrument depends on sample size, target uncertainty, repeatability, method, throughput and environmental conditions.

How to choose a balance

  • Capacity: Allow for the sample and container, without exceeding the model's specified range.
  • Readability: This is the smallest displayed increment, not a guarantee of accuracy or uncertainty.
  • Repeatability and minimum weight: For critical laboratory methods, assess the balance's performance for the actual load and method. The minimum usable net weight depends on repeatability and the required measurement tolerance.
  • Environment: Use a stable, level bench away from drafts, vibration, temperature changes and static. Use a draft shield where appropriate for small samples and fine readability.
  • Calibration and checks: Confirm calibration, traceability, routine performance checks and service arrangements for the intended quality system.
  • Trade use: Check the applicable national rules and instrument verification before using a balance for transactions by weight.

Relevant technical references include OIML R 76 on non-automatic weighing instruments, NIST Handbook 44 (2026 edition), and USP General Chapters <41> Balances and <1251> Weighing on an Analytical Balance. Frequently asked questions

Does 0.001 g readability mean the balance is accurate to 0.001 g?
No. Readability is the display increment. Accuracy, repeatability, linearity and measurement uncertainty are separate performance characteristics.

Can I use a laboratory balance for commercial gold transactions?
Only after confirming the model and installation meet the legal-metrology requirements in the relevant market.

What information should I send to select a model?
Share the maximum and typical sample mass, required readability or tolerance, application, destination country, calibration needs and any data-interface requirements.
