Good weighing practice

Use a stable, level bench; protect fine weighing from drafts and vibration; allow the balance and sample to reach a suitable temperature; and use clean containers and appropriate tare procedures. Establish calibration and routine performance checks according to the risk and quality requirements of your application. Readability is the displayed increment, not the same as accuracy, repeatability or uncertainty.

For regulated laboratory work, assess the balance's performance over the operating range and determine whether its minimum usable sample mass meets the method requirement. For commercial precious-metal transactions, confirm applicable legal-metrology and verification rules before use.
